Who Can Participate |
For 4- and 5-year-olds |
What Happens |
Your child will see and hear about a series of children who hold different opinions on whether or not certain behaviors (e.g., lying) are okay. They will then be asked to respond to the children's opinions. [This is a template based on the study 'Can they both be right?' originally implemented by Lisa Chalik.] |
What We're Studying |
There are two broad types of moral rules: positive (do good things) and negative (don’t do bad things). We are interested in whether humans’ “built-in” ideas about morality are more based on one type of rule. To find out, we are asking children whether people can disagree about various rules and both be right, which gives us an idea of how serious they think the rule is. This research will help us understand where adults’ ideas about moral behavior come from. |
